What is the Order of
the Arrow?

Order of the Arrow

The Order of the Arrow is a service organization of
the Boy Scouts of America dedicated to promoting quality Scout
camping. Founded in 1915, it is almost as old as Scouting in
America. Since its inception at Treasure Island Scout Camp near
Philadelphia, the Order has had an influence on the lives of
millions of Scouts.
This influence is realized in the experiences which
mold young men into leaders of the Scouting movement by providing
them with additional leadership and service opportunities which
they can use to guide their units. As the "honor camping
brotherhood" of the Boy Scouts of America, the Order recognizes
Scout campers, promotes year-round Scout camping, and strives
to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness and cheerful service.
Arrowmen in the Ini-To Lodge help to promote and improve
camping for units in our Council by:
Setting the example of good
camping habits and leading the way in the promotion, interest
and enthusiasm of year-round camping in his own unit where his
initial duty remains.
Promoting summer camp to units
leaders during the Fall Camp Promotions Kick-off, and all other
opportunities.
Giving thousands of hours annually
in service to improve and maintain camping facilities.
Contributing funds for the improvement
and maintainace of camping facilities.
Publishing the Plan Book and
"Where to go Camping."
Every camping unit should hold
an election for membership to the Order of the Arrow each year.
Elected by the membership of the unit, the candidate should exemplify
the Scout Oath and Laws in his daily life. Further information
on Election Procedures may be obtained from the Lodge or Chapter.
The members of the Ini-To Lodge
continue to give back to Scouting through their service and leadership
the excitement that they have experienced in hopes that the younger
Scouts who follow find Scouting and Scout camping an enriching
experience.
