Aquatic Sports

The Boy Scouts of America outdoor program offers many
exciting opportunities in aquatic sports. Many troops participate in
several aquatic programs each year including waterfront free swim,
canoeing, whitewater rafting, motor boating and waterskiing.

The basic underlying participating requirement for all
of these activities is that the Scout and Adult must have their swim
ability level identified to your troop leadership to support the Safe
Swim Defense / Safety Afloat programs. Each troop should conduct a swim
test at a local pool or at summer camp. Each member of the troop is
rated either a non-swimmer, a beginner, or a swimmer. This official
test result remains valid for one year, unless upgraded or downgraded by
a BSA or Red Cross certified lifeguard.
